Orthopaedic Surgeons in the UAE
Orthopaedic surgery treats the musculoskeletal system — bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Most consultants sub-specialise by body region or condition: knee and hip arthroplasty, sports injury and arthroscopy, spine, shoulder and elbow, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, or paediatric orthopaedics. A large part of orthopaedic practice is non-surgical, covering injections, bracing and rehabilitation before an operation is considered. Also written orthopedic surgeons, and sometimes called bone specialists.
Choosing a practitioner
Sub-specialty matters more here than in most fields. A surgeon who performs knee replacements weekly is a different proposition from a generalist who performs them occasionally, so ask directly how many of your specific procedure they do each year. Ask what the non-surgical options are and what happens if you wait — a surgeon who can clearly explain why you should not yet have surgery is a good sign. Confirm who delivers your post-operative physiotherapy and whether it is included.
