Ophthalmologists in the UAE
Ophthalmology covers medical and surgical treatment of the eye: cataract, glaucoma, refractive error, retinal disease, corneal conditions, squint and paediatric eye problems. Cataract surgery and laser vision correction make up much of routine private practice in the UAE, alongside management of diabetic retinopathy, which is a significant concern given regional diabetes prevalence. Sub-specialisation by eye structure is common. Commonly searched as eye doctors.
Choosing a practitioner
Confirm the sub-specialty matches your problem — a refractive surgeon and a retina specialist do very different work. For laser vision correction, ask which technique is being recommended and why, what your corneal thickness and pupil size mean for suitability, and what the plan is if you are not a candidate; a surgeon who rules you out is protecting your sight. For cataract surgery, ask about lens options and what each does and does not correct, since premium lenses are not universally advantageous.
